About Pastor Kjell Lee
My path to the ministry was by no means
orthodox. I was born in 1936 in Stavanger, Norway, which is located in
the southwest part of the country. Although my father was a prominent
minister and evangelist, I was not immediately called to the ministry or
to become a Christian, for that matter. I had an adventurous spirit and
a desire to see the world. So, at the age of sixteen I joined the
Norwegian Merchant Marines, where I spent two years traveling all over
the world.
In 1954, at the age of eighteen, I immigrated to the United States
because that was the country of dreams and great opportunity. In
search of new adventures, I tried my hand at salmon fishing in Alaska
for one season. Thereafter, served my newly adopted country
for three years as a United States Marine. I became a United States
Citizen shortly following my discharge from the Marine Corps. Feeling it
time to settle down in a career, I enrolled at the Burnley School of
Professional Art in Seattle at the age of
twenty-two. Upon graduation, I spent 15 years as a successful fashion
artist for Frederick & Nelson in Seattle, Washington.
It was at Burnley Art School that I met Judy Sue, who is now my wife, we
were married in 1961. But at this time neither Judy nor I was Christian.
It was in 1962 when Billy Graham had one service at the World's Fair in
Seattle, Washington that my wife and I responded to God's call to save
us. What a glorious day that was!!!
Fourteen years later came God's call to become a pastor. At the age of
40, I enrolled as a seminary student at the Lutheran Brethren
Theological Seminary in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. My first pastoral call
following graduation took me to Phoenix, Arizona. I then went on to
become pastor
at churches in New Jersey, Minnesota, and Colorado. I also spent time as
a prison chaplain in Sing Sing State Prison in New York.
In 1996, at the age of 60, I became a full-time evangelist for the
Norwegian Lutheran Mission (Norsk Luthersk Misjonssamband) where I
traveled as an itinerant preacher throughout Norway. I am also involved
in this mission's
radio ministry (Norean.no) which broadcasts on 30 radio stations in
Norway.
Today, I am involved in a PODCAST ministry -
kjelllee.org>Sermon Library.
